This dream began in June, 2009 while at a Jackson Convention and Tourism meeting. The "Say Yes to Michigan" representative, asked if I gave cooking classes at the Inn. I told him that quilting groups, scrapbookers, family reunions, weddings and many others came to the Inn but, I had not thought of cooking classes. The wheels began to spin..... where would I put it, how much would it cost, would people come when I finished it, would I have time and what was the business plan.
I am not a gourmet cook but what I would call a good homemade cook that loves to learn new things. Working with "Rick the Builder" I started planning. Together we decided where it would be best to add on to the Inn. First item to come out was a tree that was in the way. Then we would need to configure the size. As usual it started out large and became smaller because of costs.
My decision was to put in an Ikea kitchen. So I went down to Canton to have them help me design it. I was ready to order it when I saw a display kitchen in our local Kitchen Shop and fell in love. The next phone call was to Rick to see if it would work. He has great vision and after 3 hours together we said yes, and we would build the addition to fit it!
Then the wait came, he was working on a kitchen for my sister. So I would be secondin line. From there I learned to haul blocks down the hole, to mix concrete and to hold the flashlight when it started to get dark early. Outside, I helped put up stone for the fireplace. I love the learning experience that building gives. Although I am not sure Rick always loves my help!
But now it is done, and the reality is better than the dream ! Blessed with a gorgeous pantry and a much needed larger utility room. The room is vibrant with color! And I am now ready for the TV cameras for my further dream of a Food Network Show. .....Move over Paula Deen! LOL
