Another gorgeous week-end in Michigan and a busy one for the Hankerd Inn. I had 17 quilters, 8 scrapbookers, and couples from California, Arizona, and Indiana. The quilters were from Pieceable Quilters, from around Sterling Heights, Michigan. They arrived to the Inn before I got home from my regular job and were already sewing up a storm. This was their third time here, and I love seeing the work they do !

Two of the quilters, Cheryl and Janet have been dyeing fabric, that comes out looking like Batik. They just started a few months ago and are getting a great product, they hope to start a business together. Good Luck girls! Another group of gals that come to the Inn, dye there own fabric also, but use it only for themselves. I think it would be a good retirement hobby for me to have!
The scrappers came just before dinner, they were from the Lansing area and have been here many times. It feels like they are part of the family as I ask about the twins or how the daughter is doing in college. Always the question is what are we going to eat! For Saturday lunch I made both Tomato Basil Soup and Corn Chowder, because there was a large group! I’ll share the recipe:

Tomato Basil Soup
1 large onion, diced
½ stick of margarine
1 large can tomato soup
1 large can diced tomato (I like the ones with onion and pepper)
whole milk that would fill one tomato soup can
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 tsp garlic pepper
1 tsp basil
**Saute onion with margarine until tender add the rest of ingredients. I make mine in a small roaster or crock pot and let it simmer for 4 hours. Top with croutons.
Along with the soups I served grilled cheese, with chips and pickles. Joe did his usual root beer floats for dessert!
.A last minute couple from Indiana came in that were looking at the beautiful and unusual trees at Gee’s Farms which is only a few miles away. The woman was a landscaper and very interested in the variety that Gee’s has. It has many greenhouses and a great variety of trees, bushes and even hand dipped ice cream.
What a great variety of guests and great week-end!
